Anime Origins Units: Release Roster Guide
Build a useful Anime Origins roster with launch-day roles for damage, hill coverage, control, income, elements, and evolution instead of rarity alone.
Which Anime Origins units should I build around?
Build around roles, not a single rarity label. The release roster needs cheap opening damage, grouped-wave coverage, a boss answer, hill or flying-target coverage, crowd control, and income. Fill the missing job before chasing a second unit that does what your current carry already does.
Release-day role shortlist
| Unit or role | Publicly observed job | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Akeno | Hill coverage, lightning element, stun | Covers air lanes and adds control |
| Bulma | Income generation | Funds expensive upgrades on longer stages |
| Goku | General damage candidate | Highlighted as useful in release guidance |
| Meliodas | Strong damage candidate | High upside, with evolution cost to consider |
| Sasuke | Strong damage candidate | Another banner target mentioned in launch coverage |
| Low-cost opener | Early wave control | Prevents an expensive team from leaking before setup |
These are launch observations, not a permanent tier order. Banner availability and the best evolved forms can move after balance changes.
How to read a unit card
Before replacing a working unit, compare:
- Placement cost: can you deploy it before the first dangerous wave?
- Target type: ground, hill, hybrid, or another limitation.
- Attack shape: single target, cone, circle, line, or full area.
- Cooldown and range: consistent coverage matters as much as one damage number.
- Element: release footage shows major bonuses and penalties in element matchups.
- Status effect: stun, bleed, poison, slow, and other effects solve different stages.
- Placement limit: a powerful limited-placement unit may need support from cheaper coverage.
- Evolution: check whether the upgraded form changes the role enough to justify materials.
Elements can change the real damage
Release footage shows element panels with both bonuses and penalties. Akeno’s lightning element, for example, is shown dealing 150% damage to water-attuned enemies and 65% damage to earth enemies. A raw stat comparison that ignores the stage element can therefore point to the wrong unit.
Why an income unit can outrank another attacker
On short Story stages, an extra attacker may clear faster. On Infinite or long boss runs, income can fund multiple carry upgrades and increase the whole team’s ceiling. Bulma is singled out as a launch priority because she fills that economy role.
Do not place economy blindly. If its payback arrives after the wave that kills you, open with damage and add income only after the route is stable.
A practical six-slot structure
- one cheap opener;
- one area-damage carry;
- one boss or single-target carry;
- one hill or flying-target unit;
- one controller;
- one income or flexible utility slot.
Some units can compress two jobs. Akeno combines hill coverage with stun; a hybrid carry may cover both ground and air. Role compression frees a slot for a mode-specific counter.
