Is the Anime Origins unit called Akeno or Aneko?

The release footage and current guide coverage use Akeno. Aneko appears to be a common search spelling rather than a separate Anime Origins unit. This page covers Akeno so both searches reach the same answer.

What does Akeno do?

Akeno is presented as a hill unit with lightning element and a stun status effect. That combination gives her two useful jobs: hitting flying targets that ground-only units may miss and interrupting enemies so the rest of the squad gets more attack time.

Akeno element matchups

The element panel shown in the August 14 release guide lists:

MatchupDisplayed damage
Water-attuned enemies150%
Earth enemies65%

That means Akeno can look much stronger on a water-heavy map and much weaker into earth. Do not judge her from a single run without checking the enemy element.

Where should I place Akeno?

Use a hill position that:

  • sees a long section of the flying path;
  • lets multiple waves remain in range;
  • applies stun before enemies reach the final turn;
  • does not overlap completely with another hill-only unit.

Long sightlines generally produce more total attacks than a hill at the very end of the route. If the map splits, place her where both branches enter range or reserve another air answer for the uncovered lane.

Which traits fit Akeno?

Choose based on the role you need:

  • Cooldown: more attack cycles can mean more stun opportunities.
  • Range: useful when one hill must cover a long or split route.
  • Damage: stronger when the stage already has enough control.
  • Balanced stats: Ace is a flexible launch roll when you do not want to chase a narrow specialist.

Do not spend unlimited Trait Rerolls just because Akeno is useful. Set a budget and keep a role-fitting mid-tier roll if it already solves the stage.

Is Akeno a must-pull?

She is a high-value role target for a roster lacking air coverage or control, but “must-pull” depends on your current units, banner, and elements. If you already own reliable hybrid coverage and stun, a boss carry or income unit may improve the account more.

Sources and coverage date

Akeno’s hill role, element panel, stun status, and launch recommendation are shown in LapisMudkip’s Everything You NEED to Know About Anime Origins, especially the unit and element discussion near the end. A source-labeled roster summary at Anime Origins Characters and Observed Roles independently records her flying-target role. Checked August 15, 2026.
